Who am I?
Hi there, my name is Alex. My parents officially named me Alexander, but I prefer the shorter version – it sounds less serious to my ears.
I was born in 1983 in the Charité in Berlin-Mitte. Yes, one of the few “true Berliners”. Not my accomplishment, but people keep saying this all the time, so 🤷.
I am the father of two teenagers and I could not be prouder. Both are amazingly smart and kind and beautiful kids people. I am also the lucky partner of an amazing, stubborn, thoughtful and funny woman.
I still live in Berlin. It’s the best city in Germany, with Hamburg being a close second. After those two there is a big gap – #isso and I’ll die on this hill. I like the hustle and bustle of bigger cities, living quietly in the countryside is not my cup of tea.
I love technology, always did. My first computer was a 286 IBM Compatible – my mom brought it home in 1990ish. From thereon technology and its applications have been the common thread through my life. Still as fascinating as back then.
I also like board games and bicycles, cooking, and discussing politics. Every now and then I think I can play the guitar – I can’t. I learned to like hiking and the outdoors. I should go bouldering again. Soon. Any day now.
I generally don’t like movies and TV shows. Too long, too much of an investment, too passive. I’d rather play a video game. Also, look what they did to Star Trek.
I am neophile and think that the absence of curiosity is one of the worst traits a person can have. I’ve gotten pretty good at consciously avoiding peaks of inflated expectations with new things on my personal hype cycle. But still, the “Oh, shiny”-factor is strong.
Politically I’m far left of the center – there are parts of me dangling out of the Overton window.
Racism, nationalism, misogyny, trans- and homophobia are extremely unneeded, stupid and misguided – show those colors and our conversation is over. I flipped your bozo bit, hard and fast. No, you don’t have any worthwhile input.
Pineapple on pizza is fine. It’s pronounced JIF. iOS & MacOS, out of habit.
